Anger is not abnormal. It is normal emotion experienced by almost everyone. When in right proportion, it can be a healthy and helpful way to:

But anger can cause problems in life:

This can be Passive or Aggressive


Passive anger

  • Defeatism such as intentional underachieving or failure of self or others
  • Dispassion like showing coldness in expressions or emotions
  • Evasiveness like avoidance
  • Obsessive behavior like excessive cleanliness, fuss about trifles, demanding perfection
  • Psychological like emotional blackmail, excess sulking, feigning illness
  • Secretive behavior like anonymous complaint, character damage
  • Self torture like refusing to eat, inviting criticism

Aggressive anger

The symptoms of aggressive anger are:

  • Bullying as using power to oppress
  • Destructiveness as in harming person, relationship or objects
  • Showing self as better than others
  • Hurting through speech, actions or violence
  • Recklessness
  • Selfishness
  • Blaming, cursing, threatening, punishing
  • Outburst over non issues
  • Revengefulness
 
Causes of anger:

-       Person specific anger

-       Event specific anger

-       Situation specific anger

-       Anger due to past memory
